Welcome to the website of Llai Local History Society and Llay Miners' Heritage Centre (Mining Museum)
![]() 1947 Llay United F.C. Ladies’ Football Team Back Row : Betty Davies, Edith Rogerson, Pat Prydderch, Joan Lawrence, Kathleen Richards Front Row : Sarah Ellen Davies, Marion Davies, Ceridwen Pugh, Dorothy Sutherton, Muriel Baker, Marjorie Taylor | Llai, or Llay in English, is
a community of around four thousand people located four miles North of Wrexham
in North Wales.
The original village was built in the 1920s for the mineworkers at Llay Main
Colliery but we can trace our history much further back in time. If you are, or were from the village we hope you will find lots of interest in these pages. If your family
lived in the area then this website will help to tell their story. |
